BioThe basics: I spent the first two decades of my life as a Midlander, the third as a Southerner, and now I'm into the fourth as a Northerner. Other than that, I'm not much into categories when it comes to my personal life: and I don't aim for consistency either! Things that matter to me include honesty, enterprise, innovation, quality, passion, self-knowledge and humour: the context or genre is less important.
Work: I'm a University lecturer in Roman history, specialising in Roman cities. This of course means that I am generally very much into anything to do with the Romans, including Roman archaeology, any aspects of Roman material culture, Roman literature, Roman gods and also films set in the Roman world. I'm inclined to work too hard, while at the same time remaining convinced that it isn't hard enough. Hey, that's academia. Posts about students or colleagues are usually friendslocked.
Play: Outside of my work, I'm a serial fangirl. Particularly ardent obsessions include Jeeves & Wooster (books and TV series), Stephen Fry in general, Buffy and Angel, Doctor Who, Poirot, Diana Wynne Jones books (especially The Worlds of Chrestomanci), and Harry Potter books and films (especially Severus Snape). You can divine many others from my interests. I love dancing and singing, but only for my own enjoyment: I don't expect anyone else to be impressed by the results! As for the music, it runs right from Handel to the Spice Girls... and I really hate musical bigotry.
Love: I'm single, have been for six years, and feel no pressing desire to change that. I'm not saying the door is closed to that special someone, but I'm not actively looking. In the meantime, the odd dalliance here and there is more than enough for me. I'm bisexual, but in practice a lot more interested in girls than boys these days.
On LJ: I make as much of my journal public as I can without compromising other people's privacy or giving away sensitive personal information (e.g. my address). I'm happy to be friended by anyone who wishes to do so, and you'll be able to read most of what I write if you do. If I know you in real life, you've introduced yourself, or we've got to know each other via comments somewhere, I'll quite probably friend you right back. But I don't usually friend people who add me without saying anything.
